What is Educational Excellence?.
Excellence is the noun form of Excel. To excel is to stand out positively; to gain prominence; to tower above others. It is to be what is called "Primus inter pares" (First among equals).
Paths to Educational Excellence
The fist thing to do in order to achieve educational excellence is to:
1 Identify your natural endowment or talents: Having done this, you now try to find out the area of human activities where these talents would be useful. This exercise is very important so as to avoid striving in an area where you are not gifted or where you have very low aptitude or natural ability.
2 Identify your Goal in life: That is, you should make up your mind concerning what you want to become (A medical doctor, a lawyer, an engineer, an artist, a pilot etc) or what you want to achieve. This decision should be based on your knowledge of yourself as per your abilities, interests and attitudes.
3 Determined to achieve your objectives at all costs: You have to make up your mind not to allow anything to sway you from attaining your set objectives. In this regard, you have to discipline yourself to achieve the goal. You have to be ready to give what it takes.
Practical steps to Educational Excellence:
1 Seeing yourself as Student: So a student should always study. You must be eager to learn. Some students study when they have examinations to write. This is wrong. A good Student should be interested in Why, What, Where, When and How of things. All your five senses must be put on the alert to gather information for your educational development.
2 Getting all necessary materials for your learning : Such things include Text Books, Assignment Books, Calculator, Four Figure Tables, Mathematical Sets and so on.
3 Punctual and Regular at School : Lateness, truancy and absenteeism are the foundation on which failures are built. It is always easier to follow the trend of a lesson/lecture if you're there right from the beginning, what you hear by yourself is far reliable than what others will tell you. Also, what you write down yourself will be far more reliable than what you copy from other people's notes.
4 Listening Skills: To be an excellent student, you must be an excellent listener. Indeed, listening is the key to educational excellence. If you're a good listener, you have scored 50% of the total marks.
5 Taking note during a lesson/lecture: Ability to take a good note during lesson/lecture is very crucial to the success of any student.
6 Reading: To succeed educationally, you must be an avid reader or a "book worm". The reason is that, the more you read the more you know. The more you read the more loaded your brain becomes and more informed and or educated you are.
7 Reading programme or Time-Table: Students who do not have time - table are directionless students. Good Student should plan their time - table and keep strictly to it. For it is ridiculous to make a time - table but fail to keep to it. Such is a mark of unseriousness.
